Summary:"This volume presents the critical edition of the Armenian version of the fifth book of Irenaeus of Lyons' Adversus haereses. Written in Greek, this work is preserved only in two ancient translations, Latin and Armenian, and fragmentarily through a few Greek quotations. The Armenian version, transmitted by the sole manuscript M 3710 discovered in 1904, constitutes an indispensable document for theologians and historians. The introduction assesses what is known about the Armenian tradition, including the numerous, unpublished quotations. The critical edition reveals that the Armenian version was produced on a different Greek witness from the one used by the Latin translator. Both traditions, Armenian and Latin, are therefore of equal value. A French translation contributes to a renewed appreciation of this work; it strives to be faithful to the Armenian text, just as the Armenian translator sought to be faithful to the original Greek."--
